AMORY — Clarence L. Tartt, 79, died Feb. 23, 2009, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center–Amory. Services are today at 2 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Warren Pickle officiating. Burial will follow at Haughton Memorial Park. Visitation will continue until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Tartt was born Oct. 5, 1929, in Monroe County to the late Edgar and Sadie Smith Tartt. He lived in Amory for over 60 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, and he was a member of American Legion. He was a former employee of Glenn Manufacturing and True Temper Sports and a member of Bigbee Baptist Church where he was a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Tartt; sisters, Adeline Hood and Elizabeth Lyle; son, Carlos Tartt; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Marvelle Jean Lyle Tartt of Amory; sons, Charlie and Timmy Tartt , both of Amory; daughters, Deborah Ball, Sheryl Thomas, Pam Ponder and Carla Leech, all of Amory; brother, Fred Tartt of Memphis; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Shawn Ball, Kyle Thomas, Tony Young, Chris Tartt, Dylan Leech, Dustin Parker, Jake Sloan, and Brad, Corey and Colby Ponder.
