SULLIGENT, Ala. — Clara Mae Cox Handley, 82, died Sept. 22, 2018, at her residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Otts Funeral Home Chapel with Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Otts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Handley was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Houston Cox and Hilda Davis. She attended Sulligent High School. She was formerly employed as a seamstress with McCoy Manufacturing, Mr. Gene’s and Jack Rabbit Slims and as a cook with Gilmore Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Jr.” Handley Jr.; sister, Virginia Cox; and brothers, Frank Cox, Charles Cox and James Thomas Cox. She is survived by her daughters, Doris Boyette and Liz Comer, both of Sulligent; brother, Jerry Cox of Sulligent; sister, Mary Ruth Downey of Sulligent; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Frank Hughes, Brandon Comer, James Comer, Al Noe, Donnie Noe and Gavin Colburn.
