Charles Williams, 84, died May 9, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stephen Chapel MB Church with the Rev. Joe L. Peoples officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m. with family hours from 6-8 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Leake County to the late Eliza Williams Ousley and Newton Williams. He has been the owner of 10th Avenue Body Shop since 1948. He was a deacon of Stephen Chapel MB Church and a member of VFW Local Post #7341 and American Legion. He was a Mason and had served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Curtis, Stephen and Lloyd Wayne Williams; and brother, Lenox Boone. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Frances Walls Williams; sons, Gregory Williams of Houston, Texas, Charles E. and Sherman Douglas Williams, both of Chicago, Ervin Williams of Atlanta and Montgomery Williams of Jackson; daughters, Florence Burr of Steens, Frances Russell of Atlanta, Erma Stephen of Crestview, Fla., and Hazel Stephens of Smyrna, Ga.; brother, A.G. Williams of East St. Louis, Ill.; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
