ALICEVILLE, Ala. — Bobby Eugene “Popcorn” Hudgins, 73, died April 30, 2009, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Aliceville First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Thomas Kay Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Franconia-Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church sanctuary. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform, Ala., is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hudgins was born May 5, 1935, in Aliceville to the late John Wilce Hudgins Sr. and Esther Marie Sammons Hudgins. He retired from the U.S. Army, the U.S.A.R.N.G. and U.S. Army Reserves. He was a life long member of Aliceville First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a youth director, deacon and past church treasurer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.W. Hudgins Jr. and William H. Hudgins. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jay Hudgins of Aliceville; daughters, Tammy Hudgins Junkin of Anniston, Ala., and Mary Mayfield Kelly of Needham, Ala.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Charles Davis, Butch Reed, James Parker, Hugh Summerville, Irvin Eatmon, Donny Sanders, Lawrence Lavender and Johnny Haggerman.
