Benny South

DETROIT, Ala. — Benny Thomas South, 58, died June 16, 2022, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. 

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Otts Funeral Home, with Dean South and B.J. Mills officiating. Burial followed at Carter Cemetery in Marion County, Alabama. Visitation was one hour prior to services. 

Mr. South was born Aug. 5, 1963, in Wynne, Arkansas, to the late William Herbert South and Annie Linley. He was a graduate of Brilliant High School and was formerly employed at Buccaneer Homes. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie McCann South; brothers, Samuel South and Joe South; and one grandchild. 

He is survived by his son, Dean South of Fayette, Alabama; daughter, Ruth Ann South of Birmingham, Alabama, Carol South of Guin, Alabama and Melisa Ann South of Detroit; brother, Harold South of Detroit; sisters, Lavern Dover of Brilliant, Lela Reppond of Little Rock, and Annette Hattis of Atmore, Alabama; and eight grandchildren.
