Augusta Ferguson

COLUMBUS — Augusta “Monk” H. Ferguson, 84, died March 22, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at West Lowndes High School, with Tommy Rice officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope M.B. Church Cemetery in Artesia. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. today, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ferguson was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Artesia, to the late Dennis Hairston Sr. and Augusta Hairston. She was formerly employed as a cook and as the owner of Paradise Cafe. She was a member of New Hope M.B. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ferguson; son, Leo Hairston; and siblings, Jessie Hairston, Mary Clayborn, Roxie Hines, Magnolia Hairston, Louise Cooper, Laura Jean Crockett, Judge Lee Hairson, and Dora Ann Orr.
She is survived by her children, Oliver Hairston of St. Louis, Missouri, Tommy G. Ferguson of Atlanta, Georgia, Vincent D. Ferguson, Anthony L. Ferguson, Marcus K. Ferguson all of Columbus, Bruce L. Ferguson, Reginald L. Ferguson both of Starkville, Lynn F. Kennedy, John Henry Clark both of Artesia and William Lawrence of Crawford; siblings, Lula Johnson, Joe Hairston both of St. Louis, Missouri and Dennis Hairston Jr. of Columbus; 34 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
