ABERDEEN — Rev. Alonzo Sykes, 68, died April 25, 2021, at Monroe Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at New Life M.B. Church, with the Rev. Andrew Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. today, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sykes was born Aug. 26, 1952, in Aberdeen, to the late Leonard Cratic Sr. and Alice Sykes. He attended Aberdeen Schools, Shivers High School and was a graduate of Aberdeen High School. He attended the Ministerial Institute College and was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was formerly employed as alderman of ward one in Aberdeen, as dean of North Mount Olivet District Association, vice mayor, commissioner of the fire department and with Enbridge.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Sykes; children, Rosalind Cox, Alonzo Sykes Jr., both of Aberdeen, Karen Coats of Columbus and Elizabeth Sykes of Oxford; siblings, Tyrone Cratic of Madison, Wisconsin, Leonard Cratic Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gregory Hendrix of St. Louis, Missouri, Joan Henderson of Aberdeen and Pamela Cradit-Howard of Huntsville.
