Alice Doughty McGahey, 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from 6 to 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 11AM at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Mickey Dalrymple and Bro. Matt Haines officiating. Mrs. McGahey will lie in state from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. McGahey was born August 5, 1917, in Northport, AL, to the late Bruce and Hazie Malinda Ayers Doughty and was a resident of Columbus, MS for the past seventy years having moved from Northport, AL. She was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS and a member of Pat Wallace’s Sunday School Class. Mrs. McGahey was retired after twenty-one years of service as assistant manager with Dreyfus Jewelry and was a sales representative with Stanley Home Products. She loved cooking, traveling, and riding bicycles. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Levert McGahey. Mrs. McGahey is survived by her daughters – Jo Ann Brownlee, Jasper, CA; Brenda (Ray) Luckie, Austin, TX; Mary Alice (Doug) Rasberry, Columbus, MS; sisters – Mary Nell Vail, Pensacola, FL; Dena Lancashire, Winter Haven, FL; Gene Beary, Columbus, MS; brother – John Doughty, Spokane, WA; six grandchildren – Brad Haines, Matt Haines, Theresa Senter, Kay Lawrence, Kimberly Myrick, and Clayton Luckie; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Brad Haines, Clayton Luckie, Adam Senter, Eric Breier, Sam Myrick, Andrew Bryan, Beau Senter and Matt Haines. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Wallace’s Sunday School Class, Dr. Lance Busch, Dr. Bart Williams, Dr. Gerry Jeffcoat, Dr. Cameron Huxford, staff of Homeplace, 3rd floor and ICU staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, staff of Private Home and Personal Care Services, Mary Hayden, Jack McGee, Robert White, Otis Tate, nieces and nephews.
