Addie Lash

Addie Mae Lash, 89, died Jan. 25, 2009, at her residence in Columbus. Services are Saturday at noon at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Bro. Irvin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mrs. Lash was born April 4, 1919, in Lowndes County to the late Willie and Tennie Young Shields. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Robert Brooks and Fred L. and Lula Lash; siblings, John, George, Walter, Charlie and Ollie Shields, and Mary Douglas; and husband, Walter Lash. She is survived by her daughters, Tennie Cunningham and Irene Hairston, both of Columbus; son, Tom Brooks of Chicago; brothers, Mack Shields of Columbus, Nick Shields of Dawson, Luke Shields of Chicago and Harry Shields of Birmingham, Ala.; sister, Mammie Turner of Columbus; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John II, David and Kevin Hairston, Danny, Melvin and Ed Cunningham, Chris Connally, Randy Pippins, and Fred and Troy Mason.
