Columbus Municipal School Board attorney David Dunn has submitted his resignation.
Dunn, who has served as board attorney since 1989, submitted his resignation during Tuesday night’s board meeting in executive session.
Superintendent Edna McGill said the board has not yet accepted the resignation. However, McGill said the board is taking the necessary steps to look for a replacement.
“The board is in the process of determining how to proceed in a search for a new board attorney,” she said.
Board president Jason Spears said the board is working on a list of requirements for the new attorney.
“Obviously, we would prefer someone to be within the Golden Triangle region and be able to be here in service but at the same time we’ve got to go through and evaluate their credentials, experience and other required abilities to serve the district as best as possible,” he said.
Spears said Dunn has agreed to serve as board attorney until a replacement can be named, as well as work with the new attorney during any transition period.
Dunn could not be reached for comment.
