Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a Columbus man’s murder after his body was found in a ditch along Burns Road Thursday morning.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as Lorenzo K. Halthon, Jr., 28, of Columbus.
A driver in a passing vehicle spotted Halthon’s body and called LCSO at about 7:30 a.m., according to an LCSO press release.
Neither Merchant nor LCSO Chief Deputy Brent Swan released Halthon’s cause of death, but Swan said there was enough evidence at the scene to open a homicide investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call LCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151, or report information through the P3 Tips application on their phone.
