Truth be told, you just can't beat Southern cooking.

Pearl's Southern Cooking, 7066 Hwy. 45 N., is officially open in West Point with soul food specials and Southern delights.

Check out Pearl's Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.

Just reading their menu online can make your mouth water, with sausage and gravy biscuits for breakfast to baby back ribs and catfish platters for lunch.

It's June in Mississippi so you know what that means: It's hotter than two frogs jumpin' in a wool sock.

Thankfully, the Slip-N-Dip, 312 Lake Lowndes Road, is officially open for the season.

There are COVID-19 rules in place to ensure customer safety. The Columbus water park is now capped at 100 people with customers signing in and out upon arrival and departure. Be sure to follow all guidelines and keep at least a 6-foot distance from those around you.

Slip-N-Dip is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

Columbus will soon get a taste of the "fair" weather. Fair Treats to Geaux was expected to come to Columbus this week. However, the fair food traveling crew posted on Facebook it ran into some "unforeseen circumstances."

Keep up to date with the crew's Facebook page to see exactly when they'll arrive in Columbus. Once here, they'll be stationed at Gary's Pawn and Gun at 2221 Hwy 45 N. and open noon-8 p.m. every day.

So far, Fair Treats to Geaux has traveled to Gonzales, Louisiana, Tupelo and Batesville each for about a two-week span.

Once they're here, you can get some classic fried fair favorites including blooming onions, chicken on a stick, deep fried Oreos, funnel cakes and more.

Over in Starkville, we have a Main Street shop preparing to close.

Curio, 116 Main St., announced amidst COVID-19 the apparel, accessories and home decor store would close in September. The company posted its announcement on Facebook Wednesday afternoon.

"Physical retail stores have been challenged as more and more consumers move to online shopping, and our CURiO store in Starkville has been no different," the post reads. "We realize the impact our store has on the community, and that has been a key reason we have chosen to keep our doors open thus far. As we continue to navigate through a global pandemic and the economic hardships it has created, it has become clear that maintaining our CURiO physical storefront no longer makes sense for our business."

Curio will continue to offer curbside pick-up until the store's closure. Customers can also shop Curio products online at and

There's also a new tobacco store on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, next to Thai Siam. Bulldog Smoke Shop, 303 MLK Jr. Drive, Suite A2, opened last month. The tobacco store offers customers tobacco products, vapes, various snacks and sodas. Open every day 10 a.m.-10 p.m., owner Akeed Saleh swears he has the best prices in town.

"We can beat any prices too," Saleh said. "Any price you find out there, I can match or do better. Swear."

Everyone has been showing their favorite businesses love during these trying times (I've seen it on Facebook, Twitter and in the lines of to-go orders or curbside pick-up).

It's time to crown those people and businesses that you deem the best with the Dispatch's Best of the Triangle annual competition.

Customers have until July 10 to vote and promote your favorite restaurants, clothing stores, medical professionals and even hometown heroes.

The Dispatch posts a ballot each Sunday that you can mail in or bring to the front office at 516 Main St. You can also vote online 24/7 at

Don't leave your favorite people and businesses out. The top votes will be recognized as the Best of the Triangle. Two random voters will also be selected to receive $100 prizes.
