WEST POINT — The Clay County Board of Supervisors considered reopening the courthouse to public visitors Monday, but decided to table that decision for its next meeting on Thursday.
Currently, the West Point courthouse is closed to the public but open for operations.
“The reason we’ve been as fortunate as we have been is we’ve been aware (COVID-19 is) serious,” District 2 Supervisor Luke Lummus said. “We’ve been mindful and aware of it and haven’t had any complaints at the courthouse in terms of not being accommodated. … I haven’t had anyone complain. (Our current model) seems to be working.”
The discussion was brought up in light of Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves’ newest executive order that eases more restrictions around the state and allows all businesses to open provided they follow social distancing guidelines. Businesses can allow up to 20 people inside and 50 outside if social distancing is not possible. If social distancing is possible, up to 50 people can attend indoor events and up to 100 people can gather outside.
