A doctor from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle confirmed three patients at the hospital had tested positive for COVID-19 novel coronavirus.
A hematology/oncology specialist at Baptist verified the information to The Dispatch during a medical briefing involving five local physicians at the Allegro Clinic conference center in Columbus on Friday evening.
It has not been disclosed in which county any of the three patients reside.
A spokesperson with the Mississippi State Department of Health would not comment when reached earlier Friday afternoon about whether there were cases in Lowndes County. A BMH spokesperson, when reached earlier Friday, would neither confirm nor deny if there was a positive case at the hospital.
