Super Troopers actor Erik Stolhanske will make an appearance at the third Golden Triangle Comic Con on Aug. 18.
A video of Stolhanske, who plays the character Rabbit in Super Troopers and the upcoming Super Troopers 2, announced his planned appearance on a video released on the Golden Triangle Comic Con Facebook page Wednesday. The convention is the third annual Comic Con in Columbus.
Comic Con organizer Chris Tarantino, a Columbus native who now works in the film industry in Memphis, Tennessee, contacted Stolhanske’s agent and found the actor more than willing to work with Tarantino.
“I’m happy,” said Tarantino, who is former military. “He’s actually a very military-friendly actor. … (He) supports law enforcement and the military.”
Stolhanske’s guest appearance was teased in a video released last week on social media featuring local Realtor Colin Krieger.
Krieger and some friends filmed a short video parodying a scene from the original Super Troopers in which an officer tries to fit 10 “meows” into his conversation with a driver in a traffic stop.
“I figured the ‘meow’ thing was obvious since it’s the most (memorable) scene (from Super Troopers),” Krieger said.
Krieger asked several of his comic book-loving friends to suggest iconic cats from pop culture so he could reference them in the video. He ends the video by giving the driver a ticket — to the Golden Triangle Comic Con.
Krieger said the video was produced by volunteers at Muddy Water Design in West Point.
Tarantino said in addition to Stolhanske, actors from the Sci-Fi series Van Helsing and the Netflix series Voltron will also attend the convention. The event will also feature a video game tournament and toys and comic books for purchase.
Last year’s event featured toys and comic books for sale, as well as appearances by everything from make-up artists and cosplayers — or people who dress as fictional characters — to Don Teems, who plays various zombies in the hit AMC show The Walking Dead. Approximately 1,800 people attended, Tarantino said.
“This year we’re hoping to go over that 2,000,” he said.
This year’s Comic Con will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 18 at the Trotter Convention Center. Tickets are $20 for adults, though Tarantino said discounts will be offered for children, members of the military and first responders.
Some proceeds from Comic Con go Palmer Home for Children.
Super Troopers 2 will arrive in theaters Friday. For more information and updates on the Golden Triangle Comic Con, go to https://www.facebook.com/gtcomiccon/.
