Local law enforcement agencies have denied receiving any reports of rape around Highway 389 in response to a social media post.
Starkville Police Department and the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office issued a joint press release Friday morning stating they received multiple inquiries about a post made on Thursday afternoon about rapes in the area. The post, which appears to originate from Plantersville, alleges there was a “a black man with a mask braking[sic] in houses and raping women” at around 3 to 4 a.m on Highway 389.
The joint press release said neither SPD or OCSO has received calls or reports to indicate that was the case.
“Our agencies would like to remind you that we strive to provide accurate information to our community,” the release said.
