A Lowndes County man who allegedly fired a weapon in the presence of volunteer firefighters was arrested Monday.
Avery Lawson Williams, 21, of 1920 Ridge Road, has been charged with simple assault and misdemeanor exhibiting a weapon to three or more people. According to Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Greg Wright, Williams’ camper caught fire Monday, and Williams was angry because he thought the firefighters hadn’t arrived quickly enough. He fired multiple shots into the ground after firefighters did show up.
Deputies who responded to the scene took Williams into custody, Wright said.
Williams’ felony bond was set at $50,000, though he faces a bond on the misdemeanor charge of $750. He has been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
