The Mississippi Press Association announced Wednesday that Paul Keane will immediately begin serving as the organization’s acting president.
Keane, publisher of The Wayne County News in Waynesboro, will assume the role after current MPA-MPS President Don Norman stepped down from his position. Keane currently serves as vice president for MPA-MPS, and will be formally named president at an April 27 Board of Directors meeting. He will serve the remainder of Norman’s term and will be eligible for election to a full term as president during the annual membership meeting in July.
Keane has served on the MPA-MPS board since 2009. In 2004, he was named publisher of The Wayne County News after its purchase by Bolton Newspapers of Alabama. He purchased the weekly newspaper with his wife, Doris, in 2016.
Norman, who began his term as MPA president in June 2016, is retiring from his position as publisher of the Starkville Daily News and the Daily Times Leader in West Point. Norman has acted as publisher for the two newspapers for 17 years. Because of his retirement, Norman must also vacate his president position.
Norman, a Natchez native, has served on the MPA board since 2011.
