Columbus residents Eltoro Harris, 35, and Quareantae Miller, 16, are both in custody and awaiting formal charges after an early Sunday morning armed robbery that was followed by a possibly related car chase.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to a call about an armed robbery at a home on Lyford Drive at about 3:40 a.m., according to a press release from the CPD.
The resident reported two black men entered the home through the kitchen window, displayed a knife and handgun and left with $40 and some small electronic devices.
A short time later, officers spotted two people matching the descriptions of the suspects. One was Miller, whom police arrested after finding stolen items from the house and burglary tools in his backpack. The other suspect fled on foot.
Capt. Brent Swan with the CPD said Miller will be charged as an adult.
As officers searched for the second suspect, they attempted to pull over an SUV without its lights on that was driving through the area. The vehicle fled from officers and stopped briefly on Highway 45 North before fleeing again as officers ran the driver’s information through a records check. The SUV eventually crashed at the intersection of Highway 45 North and Spivey Road during a pursuit.
The driver, Harris, was arrested and charged with several traffic violations, the press release said.
Authorities said they don’t know if Harris was involved in the robbery.
