On Saturday, the Memphis Town Community Builders will host their sixth annual fall festival and haunted house.
The community builders will hold the event in the Hunt School gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday. It is free and open to the public.
Tiffany Sturdivant, a member of the community builders, said the festival will feature games and other activities such a Twister tournament, face painting and a “mummy wrap.”
She said costumes are encouraged, but not required.
Local children are involved in planning the festival and coming up with its activities. Sturdivant said some children will also help prepare the snacks that will be provided for the festival.
“We like to do our own things with a twist,” Sturdivant said. “With this, the twist for us is making sure we incorporate the kids every step of the way.
“This gives them hands-on experience and teaches them about helping others and working together for great events,” she added.
Ward 4 Councilman Marty Turner, who is also volunteering with the event, said the festival and haunted house will provide a safe, family-friendly opportunity for children and their families to enjoy some Halloween fun.
Beyond the event itself, Turner said it’s important to teach children to give back to the community so they can do the same for other children once they’re older.
“It’s become cliche that children are the future, but with the Memphis Town Community Builders, we actually do believe that children are the future,” Turner said. “It’s so important that we do enough for our children. “
