Officers with the Columbus Police Department arrested a Starkville man and charged him with statutory rape Sunday.
Eric Cannon, 20, of 205 Lynn Lane, was arrested after he allegedly entered a home on East Gaywood Street in Columbus at the request of a juvenile living there. The juvenile is under the age of 14, said Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton.
The homeowners caught Cannon and reported him to the police.
Cannon’s bond was set at $50,000.
Also on Sunday, CPD officers arrested Rennie Taria Gibbs, 25, of 300 Forrest Boulevard.
Gibbs allegedly broke into at least two residences and one vehicle. Police say she broke into a home on Seventh Avenue North on July 19. She also allegedly broke into another home on Washington Avenue, as well as a vehicle, on July 23.
She is being charged with two counts of burglary of a residence and one count of burglary of an automobile. Her bond was set at $70,000.
Both Cannon and Gibbs are being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
