Demolition of the Waters Building, located at 530 Second Ave. North, was halted today when the city of Columbus notified Lowndes County, owners of the building, that there were some issues involving the building’s historic status. Lowndes County Administrator Ralph Billingsley was not available at press time, but his office did confirm that all work on the building will be on hold until Billingsley discusses the matter with the Mississippi Department of History and Archives. The county purchased the building in June 2015 for $250,000 and plans to use the space for additional courthouse parking. Read more in Friday’s Dispatch. Photo by: Luisa Porter/Dispatch Staff
