A grand jury in Clay County has indicted an inmate for trying to escape from jail.
Depriest Gray, 30, allegedly escaped from the Clay County Jail on Oct. 14, 2015. Authorities with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department and the Starkville Police Department found Gray on South Montgomery Street in Starkville the next morning.
Gray escaped by tearing out a covering to an air vent on a ceiling in the jail and crawling through the air conditioning unit to the roof, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said.
Gray was in jail on robbery and kidnapping charges at the time of his escape.
Gray’s next court date has not been set.
