Columbus Light & Water is laying a new sewer pipeline at Riverside Park near the start of the Columbus Riverwalk.
The 24-inch pipe will replace an 18-inch pipe that has been in place more than 50 years, according to CL&W General Manager Todd Gale. Work on the pipeline began two weeks ago when a crew removed two trees from the Riverwalk. The crew actually began laying the pipeline about a week ago.
Once the Riverwalk pipeline is in place, Gale said, a crew will replace another pipeline in the Complex Soccer Complex.
Gale estimated that the work at the Riverwalk will be completed in three to four weeks.
“Then we’re going to jump across the highway and do a portion in the Soccer Complex,” he said.
That work should also take around four weeks, he said.
It has cost more than $200,000 to replace both sewer lines, Gale said.
Elsewhere at the Riverwalk, the City of Columbus is working with contractors to fix the floating pier that received storm damage in December. City engineer Kevin Stafford said he is currently in talks with contractors and hopes to have an approved plan for fixing the pier in a few days. If all goes as planned, he said, a crew could begin work on it within a month.
Stafford anticipates the plan costing about $5,000 or less.
