Last year about this time, in Columbus, the gas station at the corner of Main Street and South 14th Street closed its doors.
Then the kiosk was torn down. So was the carwash.
For the past six weeks or so, there has been ongoing construction at the location. Here’s the deal: City officials issued a construction permit to Midstate Petroleum to build a 3,500 square foot convenience store on the site. It will have six gasoline pumps.
An opening date is unknown.
In January, the two Pizza Hut dine-in locations in Columbus closed. The eateries were at 522 Alabama St. and 2215 Hwy. 45 N.
Realty Income Inc., a California-based company, owns the buildings, which cover about 2,500 square feet each.
Recently, people have contacted The Dispatch saying they noticed work being done at the buildings. The work was mainly to install new roofs, eliminating the iconic “hut-style” roofs of Pizza Huts.
No new tenants are in place at this time, however.
