TUPELO — The Mississippi Department of Transportation will dedicate a bridge spanning the Tombigbee River on Highway 82 in Lowndes County in honor of former state Sen. Terry W. Brown.
Elected in 2004, Brown, a Republican from Columbus, served as president pro tempore of the Senate from January 2012 until his death in September 2014. He served in the Mississippi House from 1988 to 2000, and ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 1999.
The ceremony will be held for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16, at the Old Tombigbee River Bridge Pedestrian Walkway and Park in Columbus. Scheduled to attend are Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves.
MDOT will erect and maintain signs declaring the “Terry W. Brown Memorial Bridge” at each end of the bridge.
