The community will have one final chance to said goodbye to Robert “Uncle Bunky” Williams on Friday.
Williams, a lifelong Columbus resident and well-loved figure in north Mississippi, died of cancer Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. He was 83.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church at 127 Airline Road, with the funeral immediately to follow.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department investigator Tony Cooper said a processional through Columbus will follow Williams’ service.
The procession will exit onto Airline after the funeral at about 1:45 p.m. or 2 p.m., then take a right onto Martin Luther King Drive South. From there, the procession will turn left onto Main Street and continue straight to the Fifth Street intersection, where it will turn left and continue on to Friendship Cemetery.
“Because of the limited space at the church, not everyone will have a chance to attend the service,” Cooper said. “With it being the middle of the day, it will give people a chance to stand on Main Street as the procession comes by and say one last goodbye.”
Joe Dillon, who coordinates Fairview Baptist Church’s streaming video services, said the church will provide a livestream of Williams’ service at fairviewlive.org.
The church will post the video online after the service for on-demand viewing.
