STARKVILLE — A local woman faces a felony animal cruelty charge for allegedly drowning a cat.
Inecia Gabriella Looby, 22, was arrested Tuesday on a single count of aggravated animal cruelty by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 4, deputies found the body of a cat wrapped in plastic in a breezeway of the Helix apartment complex at 106 Dawg Drive. Looby lives at the complex, and deputies determined the cat was hers.
When the investigators brought the cat to the Mississippi State University School of Veterinary Medicine for a necropsy, they determined the animal died from drowning.
Looby was booked in Oktibbeha County Jail, where she was processed and released on $5,000 bond.
According to state law, a person convicted of a first offense of aggravated cruelty to a domesticated dog or cat can be fined up to $5,000 and face up to three years in prison.
