STARKVILLE — A man’s failed attempt Wednesday to elude police custody through a hospital bathroom vent landed him an extra felony charge.
Devontay Jones, 24, has been charged with attempted escape, after being arrested earlier in the day for aggravated assault, according to a Starkville Police Department press release.
The aggravated assault arrest stemmed from a Saturday incident at Forest Creek Apartments where Jones allegedly shot at someone.
Following the arrest, he was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center to be checked for an injury he sustained before police arrived. Officers caught him trying to escape the hospital through a bathroom vent.
In addition to felony escape and aggravated assault charges, Jones was also served warrants for nine misdemeanors in unrelated incidents.
He is being held in Oktibbeha County Jail. Bond has not been set.
