West Point will embrace the holiday spirit on Monday with the city Christmas tree lighting followed by the annual Christmas parade.
The tree, which has been decorated with ornaments made by area children, will be lit at 6 p.m. in Downtown West Point.
The parade will follow the tree lighting at 6:30.
This year’s theme is “A Cowboy Christmas” and the grand marshal is professional steer wrestler and West Point native, Will Lummus.
Lummus was featured as the cover story in the most recent edition of Progress magazine.
Lummus will be in Las Vegas competing for the world title, so his uncle, Bob Lummus will be the honorary grand marshal.
The parade will take a route through downtown and will also unveil the new Santa float, constructed by students at the West Point Career and Technology Center.
“Our theme is ‘A Cowboy Christmas,’ so I am excited about that and excited to have horses and cowboy related Christmas floats in the parade,” said Lisa Klutts, director of community development for the West Point Clay County Growth Alliance recently.
The Columbus Christmas Parade is scheduled for today at 3 p.m. and will run down Main and College streets.
