Starkville Fire Department issued a citywide ban on burning Tuesday, according to Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough.
Dry conditions in recent days, as well as responding to several brush fires, led to the decision, he said. The ban means the fire department will not issue burn permits, and citizens can be cited for any open burning, such as rubbish, garbage or leaves.
Yarbrough said fire pits and grilling are still allowed.
The fire department will evaluate the burn ban on a weekly basis, he said. For more information, contact Station No. 1 at 662-323-1212.
