A Saturday night shooting in East Columbus has left a man dead, according to Columbus Public Information Officer Joe Dillon.
CPD officers responded to a 911 call from Country Air apartments on South Lehmberg Road about 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Dillon said. When officers arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound in the parking lot.
He was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where he was pronounced dead, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Merchant identified the victim as Taekion Tarshon Reed, 24, of Columbus. The body will be taken to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy this week.
Dillon said Reed was not a resident at the apartment complex, and it was unclear why he was there. Police do not have a motive for the crime yet.
“We don’t know what happened yet, but the investigation is ongoing,” he said. “There are a lot of unknown variables right now.”
Investigators are pulling video from several sources in the area, Dillon said.
Dillon asked anyone with any information to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151 or use the P3 smartphone app. Tips are anonymous, and may bring a cash reward if they lead to an arrest.
