Mississippi State University was one of seven higher education institutions targeted by a bomb threat Thursday.
The bomb threat came in just after 12:30 p.m. near the Cullis Wade Depot and Barnes and Noble Bookstore, according to university officials.
MSU issued a Maroon Alert and evacuated the depot, bookstore and Bost Extension Center, according to a subsequent MSU Maroon Alert that was issued. The university police department used canine units to search the area, and gave the all-clear for MSU to resume normal operations at 1:19 p.m. after nothing was found.
Meridian Community College, William Carey University, Meridian Community College, and three separate Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College campuses also received bomb threats Thursday morning. On Wednesday, 13 bomb threats were reported at higher education institutions across Alabama.
“While incidents of this nature are the subject of frequent MSU Crisis Action Team training and drills, I am extremely grateful for the prompt and professional actions of MSU’s first responders today,” MSU President Mark Keenum said in a press release. “They work hard everyday to keep our students, faculty, staff and visitors safe, I am proud of them.”
