A New Hope woman fatally shot Thursday night in an apparent domestic dispute, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Deputies responded to the 400 block of Ben Christopher Road about 5:45 p.m., Hawkins said, where they found a woman with a gunshot wound to the neck.
“She had no pulse when deputies arrived,” Hawkins said.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as Monique Cierra McDonald, 25. McDonald is a native of Corinth and had been living in New Hope for the past six months or so.
Joshua Daunte Whitley has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, Hawkins said.
Whitley was McDonald’s boyfriend, he said.
“It was apparently a domestic dispute,” he said. “They were struggling over a gun when the gun went off.”
Whitley was on the scene when deputies arrived, Hawkins said.
“He was a person of interest when we got there, and we charged him with second-degree murder after talking to him,” Hawkins said.
Merchant said McDonald’s body will be sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
