The Columbus Police Department has released the name of an adult suspect in the burglary of an unmarked police car, and made another arrest in the case.
Javarion Davis, 18, of Columbus, was charged with burglary of an automobile and felony taking of a motor vehicle, Shelton said. Another juvenile was also arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to five.
Davis and three juveniles were arrested Monday in connection with the theft of an assault rifle, a handgun, ammunition and body armor from the trunk of an unmarked police vehicle. It was parked at the officer’s house.
The body armor and some of the ammunition were recovered Monday, as well as two guns unrelated to the law enforcement weapons. Shelton said when the fourth juvenile was arrested two more stolen guns were recovered.
The police officer’s weapons have not been found yet, Shelton said.
Davis is also accused of stealing a truck the same night the officer’s car was burglarized, Shelton said.
The guns and the truck were all stolen as part of a “string” of burglaries, he said.
Police are continuing to investigate, and more arrests are possible, Shelton said.
Shelton asked anyone with information on the case to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or use the P3 Tips smartphone app. Tips are anonymous, and there is a cash reward if they result in an arrest.
