A Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot in the line of duty Thursday afternoon.
CCSO responded to a 911 call on Highway 46 West near Cedarbluff when a woman said her son had broken into her house with a gun without permission. When officers were extracting the woman out of her house through a window, the suspect began firing, and shot one of the deputies on site.
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said the deputy is stable and in the hospital. He described the wound as a deep bullet graze across the officer’s head, but Scott said he believes the officer will fully recover.
CCSO arrested the suspect, Tommy Gandy, 39. He is being held at the Clay County Detention Center, and a bond has not yet been set.
