The race in Ward 1 appears too close to call, but Ben Carver leads Christine Williams 319-306 with 15 affidavits left to process on Wednesday.
Sandra Sistrunk wins another term as Ward 2 alderman, beating Brice Stubbs 187-148. That includes election day and absentee ballots cast. There are four affidavits still to be processed for that ward.
Hamp Beatty is the apparent winner in Ward 5. With election day and absentees tallied, he holds off Anna Chaney by a 272-254 margin. Only one affidavit is left to process in that ward.
Chaney won the election day count by nine votes, but she couldn’t overcome Beatty’s lead from absentees.
Mike Brooks appears to have won Ward 4 by a 202-149 margin over Kevin Daniels after election day and absentees have been totaled. There are only three affidavit ballots to be processed.
With absentees, incumbent Democrat Hamp Beatty opens a substantial 49-22 lead over Republican challenger Anna Chaney. Absentees for all competitive wards have now been tallied.
With absentees counted in Ward 4, Democrat Mike Brooks leads Republican Kevin Daniels 22-10.
The first absentee ballot tallies are trickling in for the Ward 1 and 2 alderman races. Democrat Christine Williams holds a 20-15 lead over incumbent Republican Ben Carver in Ward 1. Incumbent Ward 2 Democrat Sandra Sistrunk leads Republican challenger Brice Stubbs 19-12.
Polls close at 7 p.m. This article will be updated throughout the night as election results are available. There are four competitive alderman races — in Wards 1, 2, 4 and 5. Mayor Lynn Spruill is unopposed.
