The Hitching Lot Farmers’ Market will holds its grand opening on Saturday morning, Main Street Columbus announced this week.
The market, located at the Hitching Lot on Second Avenue North, will be open 7-10 a.m., with activities ranging from yoga to a petting zoo and, at 9 p.m., a music parade for children led by Edwina Williams, a.k.a. Mother Goose, said market coordinator Katherine Lucas.
After a year of social distancing and modified layout of the market, Lucas said this year’s farmers’ market will feel a little more typical. While last year, the COVID-19 pandemic had everyone masked and vendors facing toward the parking lot so that customers could spread out there, this year the vendors and customers will be back under the awning, though she said the vendors’ tables will be moved back to give customers a little more room. There will also be children’s activities on some days, another departure from last year’s pandemic restrictions.
“We’re trying to get as close back to normal as we can,” Lucas said.
Main Street Executive Director Barbara Bigelow said vendors are still encouraged to wear masks.
“We are excited to open this year’s Hitching Lot Farmers’ Market,” she said in a prepared statement. “Please bear with us as we provide a safe public space for all to enjoy. If you feel comfortable wearing a mask, please do so. All vendors handling food are being asked to wear a mask for your protection as well as their own. Looking forward to a great market season!”
The market will have between 30 and 40 vendors and will be open from 4-6 p.m. on Mondays and 7-10 a.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays, Lucas said. There will be extra children’s activities the second Saturday of every month.
