STARKVILLE — Police are still investigating a Friday afternoon vehicle collision on Garrard Road that killed two people and injured another.
A police department press release, issued Monday, said the accident occurred at about 3:46 p.m. near Hiwasse Drive, when the driver of a westbound Chevrolet Impala was passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone and stuck an oncoming semi-trailer dump truck. Video evidence and witness statements from the scene indicate the Malibu driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, the press release said.
The Impala driver, Tia Boyd, 21, and front-seat passenger, Jamario Jordan, 26, were both pronounced dead at the scene. A back seat passenger, who police did not name, was flown out of Starkville for treatment.
