A former Lowndes County deputy has been indicted for allegedly sexually abusing a small child.
Michael Dulaney, Jr., 31, is facing charges of sexual battery and felonious abuse and/or battery of a child, according to Lowndes County Circuit Court documents.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins confirmed to The Dispatch that Dulaney was a deputy at Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office but said he resigned prior to Hawkins taking office in January 2020. County Administrator Jay Fisher said Dulaney was employed by the county from 2012 to Jan. 5, 2020.
The indictment says the abuse occurred in January 2019. The victim was younger than 5 years old.
Dulaney has been released from custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
