A juvenile is in custody following a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Columbus that sent one person to the hospital.
Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton did not give the suspect’s name, but said he was arrested Wednesday evening and has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
The shooting occurred at about noon on the 2100 block 14th Avenue North, Shelton said. The victim, who is an adult, and the suspect knew each other and had been involved in an “altercation” prior to the shooting, he said.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Shelton said.
The suspect’s case is likely to be handled in Lowndes County Youth Court.
