Investigators with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man charged with trying to murder an individual shot at a residence west of Columbus last month.
On Thursday, LCSO deputies and U.S. marshals took Mark Steven Gann, Jr., 34, into custody in the parking lot of a Dollar General on Military Road in Columbus, according to a LCSO press release issued Friday. Gann is accused of shooting a 26-year-old man after an argument at an Old West Point Road residence on Nov. 19.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch Gann and four other men all met and conspired to locate the victim, who was flown to an area hospital in critical condition after the shooting. The four other suspects were all arrested last month and face conspiracy charges.
Gann has been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to the press release. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit burglary for a separate incident on New Hope Road on Nov. 18.
Also arrested were: Steven Bradley Carley, 34, on Nov. 22; Kevin Lee Parker, 37, on Nov. 22; John David Reeves, 36, on Nov. 23; and Stephen Cody James, 38, on Monday. Carley and Parker were each charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of a weapon by a felon. Reeves and James were both charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
As of Friday afternoon, Gann was in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $25,000 bond. Carley’s bond was set at $35,000 and Parker’s set at $30,000. Both Reeves and James had been released from custody on $2,500 bonds.
