A grand jury has indicted a Columbus man for the death of a man whose body was found on the side of the road in rural Lowndes County in July.
Donta Terrell Kirby, 37, has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon in the death of Lorenzo Halthon Jr., 28.
Authorities with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Halthon’s murder after a passerby spotted his body in a ditch off Burns Road in north Columbus on July 2, The Dispatch previously reported. Kirby was arrested two weeks later.
Authorities released little information on the murder, including Halthon’s cause of death, but the indictment says Kirby was in possession of two firearms on the day of Halthon’s death.
