COLUMBUS — Eighty golfers and a team of volunteers gathered at Elm Lake Golf Course on Sept. 11 for a day of outdoor fun and to help present United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee with a generous gift. Sponsors donated $37,500 and International Paper matched that 60 percent bringing the total to $60,000.
“At International Paper, we believe our company cannot succeed if our communities do not succeed,” said David Phillips, mill manager. “We are proud to support United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee as they strive to make a positive impact on the education, health and financial stability of Lowndes and Noxubee counties.”
“With the current business climate, we really had no idea what to expect but our one goal was to help raise funds to support the vital work of United Way. We were actually able to surpass what we raised last year thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and players,” shared Kellum Kim, mill communications manager. “I want to thank the tournament’s Platinum Sponsor, Solenis, and every other sponsor who generously gave to make this event a success. A special thank you to United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee’s team and staff for the work they do every day to make a difference in our communities.”
