Two people from Brooksville died and three more were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in northeastern Oktibbeha County, Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed Monday.
The accident occurred at Old West Point Road near House Lane when the vehicle hit a tree, according to an Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office press release. The car’s driver, Nakendria Roby, 22, and her cousin, Kymbreyanah Roby, 16, who was sitting in the backseat, were both pronounced dead at the scene, Hunt said.
Two of the other three passengers were airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, while the third was treated at OCH Regional Medical Center and then flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Hunt said.
Hunt said none of the five people in the car appeared to be wearing seatbelts.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is assisting OCSO in the investigation, the press release said.
