Authorities with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office have identified and charged a man who barricaded himself in a Jess Lyons Road residence for more than three hours during a standoff with deputies Wednesday morning.
Nicholas Vaughn, 24, of Columbus, has been charged with aggravated assault and burglary of an automobile, according to an LCSO press release. Deputies arrested Vaughn Wednesday after responding to a call about a potential shooting on Jess Lyons Road at about 3:20 a.m. The victim, identified only as a 27-year-old man, had been “assaulted but not shot,” the press release said.
When law enforcement arrived, Vaughn was inside the residence and refused to come out, the release said. Lowndes County SWAT team was called to the scene and, at 6:39 a.m., convinced Vaughn to surrender.
No one was injured in the incident.
Vaughn is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, according to the release. His bond has not been set.
