East Mississippi Community College has hired the former business administrator for Columbus Municipal School District as the college’s chief financial officer.
Tammie Rena Holmes began working at EMCC on Feb. 24, according to an EMCC press release issued Friday. Holmes replaces Melissa Mosley, who is retiring this spring after 23 years with the college.
“We are delighted to have Tammie on our team,” EMCC President Scott Alsobrooks said in a prepared statement. “She will be a tremendous asset to the college and will be a key driver of our commitment to ensuring sensible spending that aligns with our core mission as an educational institution.”
Holmes has more than 22 years of financial management experience. Her duties will be to analyze and manage the financial condition of the college, work with other administrators to oversee the financial planning process and implement risk service to EMCC, according to the press release.
“I am excited to be a part of the EMCC team,” Holmes said. “I believe sound fiscal management will be key to the college’s continued success in creating opportunities for the students it serves and in being an innovator of economic development for our community.”
CMSD Superintendent, Cherie Labat, said Holmes’ last day with the district was Feb. 21. The school board approved the hiring of Nettleton School District Business Manager Holly Rogers as Holmes’ replacement during a meeting last week.
Labat said Rogers has been with Nettleton for five years. Prior to that, Rogers said, she was CMSD’s accountant for federal and special programs and other support services. She worked at CMSD a total of 13 years.
“It’s kind of like coming home,” Rogers said. “It’s going to be a different position than what I was working when I left there, so I’m excited about the new challenge of it.”
Labat declined to comment on the circumstances regarding Holmes’ departure from the district, citing it as a personnel matter, but said she wishes Holmes the best.
She added the district is excited for Rogers to return.
“We’re glad to have her on board,” she said.
Rogers will start on July 2. In the interim, Labat said, educational consulting group The Excellence Group, which has been working with the district since December, will aid CMSD with finances.
