Jersey Mike’s is branching to Starkville, y’all.
Starkville will be the second location in Mississippi for the New Jersey sub-shop chain, with the first one opening in Olive Branch.
You can get your fresh submarine sandwiches at 831 Hwy. 12 W. Suite D in the coming months. Jersey Mike’s representatives could not be reached by The Dispatch before press time today but the company’s website has the Starkville location listed as “opening soon.”
Jersey Mike’s story began in 1956, with “Mike’s Subs,” a local sub shop in New Jersey about an hour south of New York City and an hour east of Philadelphia (prime real estate for a sub shop). About 15 years later, employee and high school senior Peter Cancro heard the owner of Mike’s was debating selling the restaurant. After talking with his high school football coach, who was coincidentally a banker, Cancro got a loan from the bank and became sole owner of the Mike’s sandwich shop on the Jersey shore at just 17.
Since Cancro started branching from the New Jersey area, Jersey Mike’s has exploded, even to with A-listers — even Jenny From the Block, if you remember Jennifer Lopez’s “Dinero” music video. If J-Lo eats Jersey Mike’s, I’m going to give these Yankee sandwich artists a shot.
Also in Starkville, Kayla Gilmore celebrated her grand opening of the KMG Performing Arts Center.
Also in Starkville, Mattress Clearance Center opened in November at 1085 Stark Road.
The discount mattress store offers 50 to 70 percent of name brand twin, full, queen and king mattresses. According to the store’s website, the hours are by appointment.
“We are a family owned store and we don’t keep regular, traditional retail hours because we do this around our other jobs, in an effort to keep overhead low and pass those savings on to our customers,” the site reads.
If you need a better night’s sleep but don’t want to price to knock you out, give Mattress Clearance Store a call at 662-769-7079.
KMG Creations Dance, Fitness and Productions and KMG Creations center of Creative Arts is located at 317 MLK Dr. Suite 225. Gilmore said the performing arts center will offer varying classes for numerous art mediums including performing, visual, literary, theater, dance, modeling and more. She added her performing arts center offers a great outlet to the community.
Keep up to date with Gilmore and the new art center on its social media pages.
