A Columbus man wanted for failure to register as a sex offender is back in Lowndes County custody.
Investigators with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office requested the public’s help searching for Marcus McLeod, 37, back in early November. McLeod was wanted by LCSO for failing to update his information with the Department of Public Safety, as is legally required for those convicted of sex crimes. He was also wanted by Mississippi Department of Corrections and Mississippi State University Police Department.
Lt. Tony Cooper, head of LCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division, said investigators later located McLeod in an Illinois jail, where he was being held on felony drug and weapon charges.
He has been extradited and is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
