Mississippi Business Group on Health and the Golden Triangle Human Resource Association will host the first Employer Health and Wellness Resource Fair in the Golden Triangle for area employers at East Mississippi Community College’s Communiversity Thursday.
Area employers and pastors are invited to attend the fair, which goes from 9 a.m.-noon, to learn more about how to inspire healthy lifestyles among employees and others throughout the Golden Triangle community, according to an MSBGH press release. The event is free.
The fair is designed to give employers an overview of health care resources in the community and includes a series of free workshops on topics ranging from how to include physical activity and encourage healthy foods at work to how behavioral health drives overall health costs. Pastors are encouraged to attend because ministerial staff spend a significant amount of time helping members with health-related issues, the press release said.
“Our members actively work to hold down cost increases through health benefit plan design and by rewarding employees who utilize cost-effective healthcare providers,” said Adrienne Morris, GTHRA president, in the press release. “However, employers and employees must be educated about local and regional health care resources and motivated to adopt a healthier lifestyle. We need all area employers and pastors to participate in this event so we can make a difference in the lives of our employees and communities.”
The event is also sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Health, EMCC, the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Starkville Partnership and the West Point Growth Alliance.
While registration is not mandatory, employers and pastors are encouraged to register at www.msbgh.org/events. Anyone with questions is asked to contact event coordinator Christie Jones Lawrence at 214-681-2987 or [email protected]
